Queer-Minds

The group provides a safe and accepting environment for anyone who has, or may be experiencing, a mental illness.

In regular meetings we share, in confidence, our current and past mental health issues and experiences as well as coping and recovery strategies. But often we just chat about anything!

We are a queer based group, but all people are welcome including those wishing to better understand their friends and family members' conditions. We have only one rule (besides common courtesy): we don't tell others who came to the group. Unfortunately the stigma around mental illness is still such that we must keep group discussions confidential.

If you are interesting in coming, please start by joining this yahoo group. QMCA meeting times etc will be posted here and you may also choose to receive group messages by email (see your membership settings). Currently (early 2014), we are meeting once every three weeks early on Saturday afternoons at the Southern Cross Club in Woden but we'll probably also have barbeques later in the year.

Most people choose to text me before they come for the first time, so I know to wait near the reception desk to sign you in before we go to our regular meeting spot. Feel free to contact me 0423-185-491 or   This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

We post group meeting reminders at  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/actqueer/

By the way, I'm the guy in the banner. Facial hair may vary but you should be able to recognise me (otherwise just text/call me on the day).

Joel
