Are you a UNI Student or studing at the ANU? Then you should know about the ANU Sexuality Department.

The ANU is run by the Student Association, who represent the interests and concerns of the undergraduate student body. The Sexuality Department itself represents the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans*gendered, Intersex and Queer (GLBTIQ) students on campus. We work with ANUSA and the members of this minority Collective to review how the GLBTIQ community is being treated on campus, and ensure that that treatment is on on par with our basic rights to be included, treated with respect and are able to feel safe.

Some of the things we do to ensure that the GLBTIQ student experience is a positive one are:

The Sexuality Department relies on members from the GLBTIQ community at ANU to ensure its ability to run and continue the admirable job that past Collectives have done. While we are a politically motivated advocacy group, we also provide a sense of engagement at ANU for your GLBTIQ peers. Whether or not you need support, we’d love to hear from you, to make sure you’re having a great time, and to connect with our campus community.

ABOUT QUEER SPACE AT ANU

The Queer Space is a GLBTIQ Safer Space that the ANU has set up to allow GLBTIQ students an area to identify with. What the Queer Space offers is a community nexus; a place that offers security, safety and community, and is the exclusive domain of only GLBTIQ students.

There we have access to a fridge, a microwave, hot water and tea making services, lounges and chairs to study in, a computer and a small bookcase full of relevant reading material, and wireless internet.

The Queer Space is where the Queer* Department meetings are held, and often is used by members of the community for informal study groups, hanging out, for discussion groups like Queery and by the Jellybabies social group.

Jellybabies-logoABOUT JELLYBABIES

Jellybabies is the ANU GLBTIQ social club. Jellybabies facilitate social events, like coffee, brunch, dinners and drinks, movie nights, parties and other fun things.

If you would like to join the social club, please contact the conveners. Jellybabies events will be added to the Queer* Collective events calender, however, and are able to be participated in by the entire GLBTIQ student body. Despite our promotion of Jellybabies, however, the Queer* Department has no controlling power over this body. We celebrate a continued pairing with the group, and yet remain separate.

For upcoming Jellybabies events, see the Current Events page. You can contact Jellybabies at:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
