FUSE Magazine welcomes new comer Dirty Queer Magazine, check it out at www.dirtyqueermag.com
Dirty Queer Magazine will be launching their fourth issue on Friday February 10th with the ‘Queers in Wonderland’ party, followed by hosting a ‘Queer Indie Publishers’ stall at Fair Day.
Since launching in September 2010 the magazine has garnered considerable support, with readers and booksellers in Australia and internationally. “The community response has been overwhelming and amazing” says contributing editor Xavier Moustache. “It has really confirmed for us that there is a market for queer content; not gay, not straight but totally queer!”
The magazine will also share a presence at Mardi Gras Fair Day, alongside other independent queer publications Slit Magazine, Dude Trans Male Zine and the recently launched rural publication, The Den Magazine. “We’re really excited to be doing the ‘Queer Indie Publishers’ stall at Fair Day again this year” says contributing editor and photographer Morgan Carpenter. “It’s great to be working together and building community”.
Issue 4 sees Dirty Queer Magazine moving in a new direction. “The editorial team changed on issue 4 and we decided to take a more collaborative approach, inviting others to contribute” says Xavier. “We have been so lucky to have contributions from photographer Amos Mac (Original Plumbing Magazine), queer burlesque star Lillian Starr and photographer Kellie Lafranchi.
Issue 4 features interviews with cabaret singer and artist Justin Vivian Bond, musician Peaches, Godfather of Boylesque Tigger!, DJ Kam Shafaati and ‘Mr Harbour City Bear’ George Showell, performance duo Fancy Piece, and DJs Seymour Butz and Gemma of Club Kooky. Issue #4 includes additional crowd pleasing ‘Quick and Dirty’ interviews as well as another hot centrefold featuring Queers in Wonderland. “Talking to Justin Vivian Bond was a real highlight for me” says Morgan. “You write down your wish list of amazing queers and then you find yourself talking to them! Xavier had a total fan boy moment with Peaches.”
February 10th sees the Dirty Queers take over the Red Rattler for their ‘Queers in Wonderland’ party. Tying in with the magazine’s centrefold, the party will transport you to another world with performances by Australia’s Queen of Burlesque Imogen Kelly, fantastic creatures created by Justin Shoulder, Pluto Savage and DJs Seymour Butz and The City Loves A Boyfriend.
