SMH says ban gay divorce

AUSTRALIA'S marriage rate is going up and that's a good thing, right? It speaks of a society that feels secure and optimistic.

But Australia's divorce rate is also going up and that's a bad thing, right? It suggests a growing mood of bitterness and disappointment. So here's a modest proposal designed to boost the goodness in the land and cut the badness – why don't we change the law so that instead of banning gay marriage, we ban gay divorce?

In the latest census, 26,000 men and 24,000 women said they were living in de facto relationships with people of the same sex. Of course that is not the total of gay people living together across the continent. It is simply the number who took the opportunity to declare their love on the census form. They had the option to say simply that they shared a dwelling. Instead they chose to tell the Bureau of Statistics that they regarded themselves as married. More at Source SMH.
