Sex Party Alleges Hate and Discrimination Against Gay and Lesbian Community. The Australian Sex Party has expressed opposition to the Australian Christian Lobby over its outdated and dangerous attitudes to marriage in the NT.

Australian Sex Party coordinator, Seranna Shutt, has challenged the ACL's Lois Fong to a public debate on the issue.

"The Australian Sex Party represents the views of many in the NT including indigenous gay and lesbian people and we see the ACL's attitudes as fostering hatred and discrimination rather than making happy families", said Ms Shutt. "Let's get Ms Fong up there on the podium and have a debate in front of ordinary Northern Territorians and see whether her conservative views are supported there".

Jason De Santis, from the Tiwi Islands said that indigenous queer people were often forgotten in the debate. "As the recent ABC documentary Sistergirls showed to many people we are a proud and creative minority in the NT and we have had enough of these Christian evangelists telling us how to run our lives", he said. "Gay and lesbian indigenous people exist in the same ratio in their communities as white gay and lesbian people do in theirs. We are just as proud and just as keen to be involved in these big moral issues."

“Indigenous law is a pretty broad term and there are different laws within each tribal region” said Jason De Santis   "Some have been influenced by the church more than others.

Ms Shutt said she was prepared to debate the ACL anytime and offered to debate other issues such as abortion, euthanasia and censorship if Ms Fong was willing. “Playing the “black card” is one of the lowest forms of debate that the Australian Christian Lobby can engage in. That also goes for the Liberal Party. "That's the only way they know how to debate and as a result, the general community are becoming more and more supportive of equality for all.”
