Last week, the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) organised a public forum to speak out against gay marriage. Australian Sex party NT coordinator Seranna Shutt is regrouping and organising a counter-forum in support of gay marriage. Ms Shutt, who is not Christian, said that she will invite the ACL NT, amongst others, and is particularly keen to engage with their spokesperson, Lois Fong. Last night, Ms Fong said that the ACL had not yet recieved an invitation to the forum.
"I want everyone to have a debate, not just the Christians, show that it is a widespread community issue," she said.
"We see the ACL's attitudes as fostering hatred and discrimination rather than making happy families."
The ACL man+wife4life campaign meeting attracted more than 100 people and representatives from 13 churches. Bishop Eugene Hurley was among the speakers. ACL spokesperson Lois Fong said that the meeting was called as a reaction to Green MP Adam Bandt's offer for the organisation to express their view
Ms Shutt's drawcard for the debate is gay marriage advocate from the Tiwi Islands Jason 'Foxxy Empire' De Santis. The Sex Party-organised forum takes place at the Deck Bar on Sunday at 3pm.
