He can suck my blood any day. Xavier Samuel, 25, is an experienced actor who most recently starred as a gay Australian surfer named Fergus in the movie “Newcastle”, which gave Xavier a lot of big screen exposure in more ways than one.
The SMH reported that he's new role in Twilight sees him play a "newborn vampire" who joins a plot to murder Bella, played by Kristen Stewart.
Samuel, 25, won the role less than a week after arriving in Los Angeles to audition. The actor, who was raised in Adelaide, watched Twilight on the plane to the US. "I really enjoyed it," he said yesterday.
"When friends of mine heard that I was going to audition for [the new movie], they were really excited. It's amazing that I have this opportunity put in front of me."
Samuel, who alos performed in the Australian thriller Roadtrain and the horror film The Loved Ones before trying his luck in Hollywood, is ready for the fan hysteria that surrounds Stephenie Meyer's books and the movie adaptations.
"Obviously a lot of people really engage with the material and for a good reason," he said. "It's exciting fiction and everyone loves vampires, right?"
Twilight was a hit in cinemas last year, making stars of Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who plays the brooding vampire Edward. The first sequel, New Moon, will be released in November.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eclipse centres on a choice that Bella must make between Edward and a werewolf played by Taylor Lautner.
Samuel has a theory about why so many people are interested in vampires.
"I guess there's something intriguing about the notion of eternal love," he said. "And they're very sexual."
