An American actor has filed a lawsuit in an attempt to stop an unknown hacker calling him gay on Wikipedia.

Ron Livingston, the Stand-Off actor who married his co-star Rosemarie De Witt last month, has been plagued by a user of the site who keeps changing his personal information.

The issue began in May, when a user changed his page to say he was in a relationship with a man named Lee Dennison.

Since then, the lawsuit claims, attempts to correct the information have been futile as the unnamed person has immediately returned to change the details.

The lawsuit claims the actions are false and "malicious" and adds that the mystery user has set up fake Facebook profiles for Livingston and Dennison.

According to TMZ, he is suing for libel, invasion of privacy and for using his name and likeness without his permission. The suit did not state damages.

Whatever the outcome of Livingston's claim, the fact that he made it is likely to be permanently added to his Wikipedia entry.

In August, a New York judge ruled that being called gay was not defamatory.

The case concerned Howard K Stern, the former boyfriend of model Anna Nicole Smith. He had been seeking damages over a passage in a book that alleged he had oral sex with another man.
