headspace ACT is a youth mental health service that is a one-stop shop for young people aged 12-25 and their families to receive mental health and/or alcohol and other drug support in a safe, friendly and confidential environment. Anyone can refer to headspace ACT. Young people can refer themselves or referrals can come through schools, general practitioners, parents, and service providers.
When attending headspace ACT the client will first meet with a Youth Worker who will help to identify the client’s needs and goals. Following intake headspace ACT will work with the client to identify how to best reach goals and to identify what additional supports the client may benefit from. This is a client focused process where the client will direct treatment occurrence and type, with the support and input of a team of professionals and family. headspace ACT aims to provide a collaborative and holistic treatment by utilising a large range of practitioners, ranging from psychologist to youth workers as well as close working relationships with external Drug and Alcohol counsellors, mental health professionals and community service agencies.
headspace ACT provides a range of free services, however sometimes particular services can include a cost which ranges from bulkbilling (so no cost to the client) up to a contribution of around $40 a session. headspace ACT want everyone to be able to access the support they need so discussion of fees is always available. A Young Person may be required to obtain a Mental Health Treatment plan from the Doctor. headspace ACT is located at the University of Canberra.
