Now that scally lads have become a gay porn niche and young hoodie gangs are always making headlines, it seems a group of filmmakers have decided to mix the two together and make a gang culture movie with a gay twist – in fact, the homo stuff in Shank is nearly as graphic as the violence. The movie was released last week in the UK, but good luck trying to find a cinema that’s showing it. Ignored by the London Gay Film Festival, the filmmakers will be looking to make their money back with the DVD release (already pre-ordering on Amazon). Shank will be checking in to other gay film festivals around the world, however, so keep an eye out. The director is only 21 years old, so one to watch (and a real cutie!). Check out the trailer below – it might look like a Triga release, but it really is a proper movie. If you go to the Shank website, there’s also a behind the scenes video which is quite entertaining until it runs on too long. I love the ‘muscle man’ at 02:49. Don’t confuse this movie with another movie about young hooligans and gang wars, also called Shank, that is filming right now and upsetting residents of a South London estate.
