Is your furbaby the next superstar of the ACT?

Now it’s time to find out!  Enter your cutie in the Domestic Violence Crisis Service’s 2021 Pets of Canberra Calendar competition.

Open to all pets of the ACT and surrounding region, this is an opportunity to get the camera squarely focused on your pride and joy!  We want to see your dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, birds, fish and everything in between! Naturally, there are plenty of dogs and cats entered, but this year DVCS really want to see more horses, rabbits, mice, rats, lizards, snakes, chickens and birds!

Entries into the 2021 Pets of Canberra Calendar are just $10 per pet and are open until 31 August 2020.

“We had an amazing response to our 2019 and 2020 calendars and can’t wait to see what this year’s entries bring!” said DVCS Community Development and Engagement Manager, Alanna Davis, “We want to ensure our calendar is diverse, so really encourage parents of the more uncommon pets to get snapping too!  We always get plenty of dogs and cats, but really want to see more lizards, birds, fish, rabbits, mice and anything else you call a pet!”

DVCS Champion Sue Webeck is one of the judges, “This is my first time judging the DVCS Pets of Calendar Competition and I am really excited.  The work DVCS does is crucial in our community and I am keen to support their work, even if sometimes they ask me to do really difficult things like judge pets!  Not sure if I can enter my own pet, can I?”

DVCS has not been immune to the recent events impacting our community which has significantly impacted their ability to fundraise.  Their 2021 Pets of Canberra Calendar is one thing that has been able to proceed.  The calendar is supported by volunteer photographers, Oak & Dusk PhotographyLJ King Photography and Mallie Taylor.  This will be the third calendar for all of them.  “I was thrilled when I was asked to be part of the calendar again this year.  I love working with the pets and DVCS.  It’s such an experience to be involved in and I know the time I commit to this project is so valued.  It’s my way of providing support to those in the ACT impacted by violence”  says volunteer photographer Bonnie Roberts of Oak & Dusk Photography.

The team of Judges includes DVCS Champions Adam Shirley (ABC Radio), Alan Tongue (NRL), Amanda Whitley (HerCanberra), Andrew Muirhead (Brumbies), Christian Lealiifano (Brumbies), Genevieve Jacobs (Region Media), Juliet Moody (SparrowFolk), Kristen Davidson (Mix 106.3), Sue Webeck (ANU), DVCS Staff and children DVCS supports.

Money raised from the entry fees and proceeds of sale of the calendar are used by DVCS to provide extra support to their clients, people impacted by domestic and family violence within our local community. Those supports include emergency accommodation, groceries, petrol, mobile phones and credit, support groups, security upgrades and activities for children and young people.

Entries into the 2021 Pets of Canberra Calendar are just $10 per pet and are open until 31 August 2020.

Calendars will go on sale in October at a cost of just $25 for A4 size or $35 for A3 size (including postage).  To enter your pet, please visit the DVCS website.
