Dyke Movie & Dinner Night - Tuesdays | ACT
A casual and friendly group that welcomes all like-minded women in Canberra to meet weekly for coffee, a movie and dinner.
Coffee Movie Dinner Group - Tues 26 Sept - Victoria and Abdul
This week we are meeting in Manuka, 6pm at Caph's for coffee. Caph's is in Franklin Street directly across from the cinema. Newcomers can find the movie group sitting inside, in the back at one of the long tables.
The movie starts at 6.40pm, screening at the Greater Union Cinema with dinner afterwards at Phujabi Hut, upstairs Style Arcade around 8.40pm. Due to the later finish times of movies, the organiser may need to run ahead to the restaurant to ensure the kitchen will stay open.
The extraordinary true story of an unexpected friendship in the later years of Queen Victoria’s (Academy Award winner Judi Dench) remarkable rule. When Abdul Karim (Ali Fazal), a young clerk, travels from India to participate in the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, he is surprised to find favor with the Queen herself. As the Queen questions the constrictions of her long-held position, the two forge an unlikely and devoted alliance with a loyalty to one another that her household and inner circle all attempt to destroy. As the friendship deepens, the Queen begins to see a changing world through new eyes and joyfully reclaims her humanity.
- Cast Michael Gambon, Judi Dench, Eddie Izzard
Duration 112 min
You are welcome to join the group just for the coffee, movie or dinner, or all three.
