Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras CEO Jesse Matheson said extending the celebration beyond the parade helps the spirit of Mardi Gras travel further. And with around 200,000 spectators on the streets each year plus a broadcast that reached more than 1.8 million viewers worldwide last year, there is clearly room for the party to spill well beyond Oxford Street.
At $180 for a package said to be worth $340, the value proposition is obvious. For anyone hosting their own queer little soirée, this looks like a pretty easy way to keep the bubbles, the colour and the camp all flowing.
