CMAG looks back at same-sex love in Canberra. As love became a national battleground, queer Canberrans turned to one another. Duong and Firth-Smith captured portraits of pride, exhaustion, defiance, love, and hope.

Long before Pride flags and marriage equality, men still fell in love, posed for photos, and found ways to be seen together. The images gathered by Hugh Nini and Neal Treadwell reveal this hidden history: thousands of quiet, tender portraits of male couples taken between 1850 and 1950.
