Former AFL player and coach Dani Laidley has showcased her stunning transformation on the red carpet at this year’s Brownlow Medal Ceremony.

Laidley, who announced her transition in November of 2020, wowed attendees as she walked the red carpet in a gorgeous white off-the-shoulder Marquise Atelier gown alongside her partner Donna Leckie.

Laidley said, “It’s just been phenomenal and I just said when we came down the stairs that, you know, we are so grateful and overwhelmed”.

Laidley played for the West Coast Eagles and North Melbourne between 1987 and 1997, being part of the latter’s 1996 premiership team before coaching the club from 2003 to 2009. More recently, the 55-year-old released an autobiography titled Don’t Look Away: A Memoir of Identity and Acceptance, which dives into her life and struggles to accept her gender identity, and has been open about battling with suicide attempts, body dysmorphia and drug addiction.

Her partner Leckie was asked by Nine what the night meant to them and their relationship. “I don’t know how to answer that because every time I try to I cry,” she said.
