March 31 is Trans Day of Visibility (TDoV), an annual international celebration of trans pride and awareness, recognising trans and gender-diverse experiences and achievements! TDoV is a day to lift up Trans & Gender Diverse people, amplify their voices, and share their stories.

At A Gender Agenda we have an annual tradition of celebrating TDoV with a movie night! In previous years we’ve put a spotlight on trans stories from across the globe with films like Rūrangi (2020) from Aotearoa and Joyland(2022) from Pakistan. This year's film is bringing us a story from our own backyards! Proceeds from this event go toward funding our annual LGBTIQA+ youth camp, Encampment 2024!
Black Divaz (2018) follows the six contestants competing in the inaugural Miss First Nations Pageant. Over five steamy days, they will battle it out in fierce lip-syncing battles, and face photo shoots with crocodiles and challenges that will see each contestant stretch more than just their wardrobe choices.
What does it take to be crowned the winner? We follow each competitor as they talk candidly about what brought them to this glittering stage – their triumphs and tragedies and what being Miss First Nations means for them and their communities. Black Divaz goes beyond the glitz, glue guns and glamour of black drag to reveal a fun, fabulous and sometimes fearful place. This one-of-a-kind documentary offers a sassy, intimate portrait of what it means to be an Indigenous drag queen today.
This year it just so happens that March 31st falls on Easter Sunday, so to make sure we’re not cutting into anyone’s long weekend this event will be the week before on March 23rd! Doors open at 6:00pm for a 6:30pm start.
