Virgin Atlantic scraps gendered uniforms

Virgin Atlantic unveiled a revamped uniform policy that will do away with gendered clothing requirements for its staff and introduce pronoun badges for crew members and customers.

In a move sure to stir up the industry standard, airline Virgin Atlantic has scrapped rules on gendered staff uniforms to encourage staff to freely express their identity. The Richard Branson owned company will also offer the option of gender pronoun badges for staff and passengers, and changed its online booking system to offer a gender-neutral title for customers.

Chief Commercial Officer Juha Jarvinen said, “It’s so important we enable our people to embrace their individuality”.

The carrier also said it will be conducting mandatory exclusivity training for its workers at all levels across the company, and also for its tourism partners, “to ensure all our customers feel welcome despite barriers to LGBTQ+ equality.”

The launch of the campaign saw the airline team up with RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage and non-binary social media star Tyreece Nye showcasing the new-look uniforms.
