I must say I was a bit excited when I was asked to test the new Bumzzy Butt Shaver 2.0 for FUSE Magazine. As a gay man who likes to be smooth where it counts, shaving my body has always been a bit of a complicated chore that is often fraught with danger. On Tuesday August 11, the Australian census will ask specific questions about gender identity and sexual orientation for the first time. It will also amend the previous wording about a person’s sex, which conflated sex and gender, to “sex recorded at birth”.
When Australians complete the census on 11 August 2026, they’ll face a new question that’s been a long time coming. For the first time, people aged 16 and over will be asked about their sexual orientation – whether they identify as straight, lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, asexual or use another term.
