Sydney nightlife’s fabulous rebirth ahead of World Pride

After being decimated by almost a decade of lockout laws and COVID shutdowns, the Sydney nightlife scene is beginning to burst to life again. A number of new bars and clubs are popping up around the central gay scenes of Oxford Street and Kings Cross in the lead up to World Pride next year.

Former Potts Point staple World Bar relaunched in August as the Kings Cross Pavilion, offering a 900-person capacity, sports bar, dance club and top-floor cocktail bar.

Oxford Street gay superclub Arq, which has been closed since the first COVID wave in early 2020 is set to reopen!

Regarding World Pride next year, owner Shadd Danesi said,

I believe Sydney really needs more entertainment venues of good quality

Another queer-focused club, Heaven, has opened where the famous Capriccio’s began in 1969 — and so has Noir, located directly below. The former Brighton Hotel, also on Oxford Street, has been freshly refurbished and reborn as The Riley. Past Taylor Square, the 3-level Meraki Arts Bar is set to launch later this year, aiming to combine arts and performance with high quality food and beverages and tap into the creative professional market.
