Land of Storms

The debut feature from Hungarian director Ádám Császi, Land of Storms follows young German footballer Szabolcs, who abandons a promising sporting career for a rundown family farm on the Puszta (grassland on the Great Hungarian Plain) inherited from his grandfather.

As he begins to restore the farm, Szabolcs encounters Áron and an intense relationship develops between them, drawing the ire of the local villagers. The unexpected arrival of Bernard, Szabolcs’ former teammate, catalyses a stormy love triangle.

Land of Storms is a gritty, hard-hitting exploration of the realities of homosexual desire in a hostile, uncompromising context. With a heady mixture of raw, masculine sexuality and mesmerising landscapes, Császi masterfully portrays the complexities of desire, intimacy and fear.
